The ATEX (EXplosive ATmosphere) zone is an area defined as an explosion hazard zone where the mixing of flammable substances (gases, vapors, mists or dusts) with air can result in complete combustion of these mixtures after ignition.

The ATEX zone requires the installation of adequate electrical and non-electrical equipment to prevent a potential source of ignition.
